In our past Disney trips we've never taken advantage of dining or special events. What would you recommend for a 5 year old boy and 18 month old girl at the various parks. We'd like to choose 3. Our boy loves castles, so a princess wouldn't phase him

is a very special experience to share with children or for the young at heart.
Each theme park has at least one character dining experience, plus most Deluxe Resorts also feature a character dining restaurant.
All character restaurants will feature a unique theme, cuisine and different Disney characters. Therefore, it is recommended to get familiar with each restaurant and its characters.
Having visited most of the character dining experience - some on more than one occasion - I would gladly make the following recommendations.
The Crystal Palace is my top choice at Magic Kingdom - with probably the best food and environment. Its location is also very convenient.
As a second choice, I would head to 'Ohana at the Polynesian Resort. Easily accessible by boat or Monorail this is a great experience when visiting Magic Kingdom or Epcot. This is probably the most fun for kids.
Akershus Royal Banquet Hall is our favorite princess dining experience. The food is totally different, the service is spectacular and the princesses are all over the place. Even my 7 year old boy enjoys this experience - he loves eating quality food.
At Animal Kingdom, Tusker House is a great place to meet Mickey and his friends dressed for a safari. The food in this experience has an African twist which I personally really enjoy, but many other guests do not. Still, there are lots of food selections that do not have the spice or taste that makes this a very unique experience.
Hollywood and Vine features fun and new characters and a menu with all the basic American breakfast meals. This is a fast tempo restaurant that kids really enjoy.
Glad to help you plan a fun and magical Disney vacation.
