Hello! I will be taking my first Disney cruise this summer on board the Dream, and have a question regarding Castaway Cay. Are passengers allowed to bring their own beach chairs and umbrellas? I am concerned that there will be a lack of shade. Thanks!

Congratulations on your first Disney cruise this summer on board the Disney Dream -- she is a stylish and oh-so spectacular ship! Plus, you'll love visiting Disney's private island, Castaway Cay. In fact, you may never want to leave!
I wouldn't waste valuable packing space on umbrellas and chairs. There are plenty for guests on a first-come, first-serve basis on the family beaches. And, if you're of the first off the ship that morning...you'll have your pick. What you do want to bring is a day bag -- complete with sunscreen, hats, sunglasses and possibly water shoes if your kiddos have tender feet. (There are quite a few shells on the bottom of the lagoon.) Also, if your little ones like to dig in the sand, I usually purchase sand toys at a discount shop at home and then, leave them behind. They'll be able to use them in the youth activities area -- Scuttle's Cove.
Spending time on the beach at Castaway Cay is a great way to relax as a family, but we also enjoy bike riding, playing games at "In Da Shade," floating in the water on a tube or racing down the slides at Pelican's Plunge. My husband and I might book a massage at Serenity Bay, or we'll make reservations for a Port Adventure such as Castaway Ray's Stingray Adventure.
I hope this helps you plan, and if you have any more questions, come back to the Moms Panel for advice from two new Disney Cruise Moms. Unfortunately for me, today is the last day of my term, but I'm happy that I was able to help you with your planning. Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation.
