We are going to Disney MLK weekend just for a few days. We are NOT staying on Disney property. Can we still access some sort of FastPass system? We mainly want to hit up rides in FantasyLand. I keep hearing of all these changes! Any help is appreciated.

Caryn, I am a excited as Belle when she first saw the Beast's library about the new MagicBand technology now in use at Walt Disney World.
All park guests have access to FastPass. Currently only those staying on WDW property or annual passholders are able to use FastPass+. The newer system allows visitors staying on site to make FastPass reservations in advance for attractions; the legacy system allows visitors to obtain FastPasses once inside the parks. When we were in the Magic Kingdom earlier this week, guests not staying at a WDW resort were able to pop the FP out of the traditional machines.
As you are aware, the new MyMagic system is still evolving. When you arrive in a few weeks for your weekend fun, you might find the Magic Kingdom is handling FP for guests staying off property differently. While you will be able to take advantage of the FastPass system, the best plan is to arrive at the park for opening. Even during the popular Christmas week we were able to conquer all the mountains and ride most of the Fantasyland attractions with little wait and no FastPasses by hitting the park as soon as the rope dropped. So set your alarm and get ready to fly with Peter Pan, bounce along with Tigger, and cruise around "it's a small world"!
