We are staying at All Star Movies. Can we drive to another hotel (say the Contemporary), park there and take the monorail to MK for the day? How difficult is travelling from All Star Movies to other resorts (for meals) with the Disney Buses?

No unfortunately you can't do that, as you are not a guest at the Contemporary you will only be given a parking pass for approximately 3 hours. However as you are staying at a WDW resort you get free parking at all the parks so for Magic Kingdom just park at the Ticket and Transportation Centre and then catch the monorail from there!
My family and I never have a car when we stay at WDW and rely solely on the free Disney buses, there have been a few times where we've waited about 30 minutes for a bus but overall we find the service they provide very good. However to get to other resorts to eat is slightly complicated and I would definitely recommend you use your car. I'm not sure where you're dining but to get to either the Contemporary, Polynesian or Grand Floridian using the Disney transport you will need to catch a bus to the Magic Kingdom and then use the resort monorail. For any of the Boardwalk resorts such as the Beach Club then you would need to catch a bus to Hollywood Studios and then use the boat. Alternatively you can get to all resorts by transferring buses at Downtown Disney.
Have a great trip,
