We stayed at PO FQ in the past and loved it. Now have 3 kids, ages 6,3,1-trying to stay on the monorail to make traveling easier, but worried about cost. Would the cheapest option be BLT studio. Is this a good plan, or should I look at something else?

I did some checking on Disney's website to compare prices of accommodations on the monorail - those at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Polynesian Resort, and Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. Since prices change depending on the time of year, these may vary. The least expensive room I found for May 2014 was a Garden Wing - Garden View room at Disney's Contemporary Resort. This was fairly comparable in price to a Deluxe Studio at Bay Lake Tower - Standard View. You may even be able to secure a Garden Wing - Standard View room at Disney's Contemporary Resort, which should be the least expensive of all. My advice to you is to call Disney travel at 407-W-DISNEY (407-934-7639) and work with a cast member to find the best option.
Disney's Port Orleans - French Quarter is a beautiful resort. That said, I understand why you are considering staying at a resort on the monorail loop, for ease of travel. A room at Disney's Port Orleans - French Quarter is significantly less expensive than any on the monorail loop, as it is a moderate resort and those on the monorail loop are deluxe resorts. You are correct in that those on the monorail loop have the advantage of location, and the rooms are also much bigger.
You could do a split stay. Start with a few nights at Port Orleans - French Quarter. Partway through your vacation, move to a resort on the monorail loop. This would save you money on the nights you are at Port Orleans, and then maybe you can splurge a little more on your monorail resort. Doing a split stay used to seem to me like it would be too much work; however, my family and I started doing them a couple of years ago and they are great. Disney will transfer your luggage for you on the day you move, and then you get to experience two Disney resorts.
Have a great time planning your trip, Mike, and please let us know if you have any further questions.
