« back to Castaway Cay
My husband and i were thinking about getting a cabana at castaway cay because we have a 2 year old and are worried about the sun. My question is are there alot of shady places on the island or is the cabana worth the money.

Welcome aboard, Samantha! The Cabanas at Castaway Cay are nice spots to relax, unwind and enjoy some private space away from the main beach.
However, if you're considering them, do know that they book up very quickly. In fact, quite often, first-time cruisers log on the very first day they're able to begin making reservations for extras like that (75 days prior to sailing) and find they're already all booked. Castaway Club Members, (those who have sailed with Disney before) can begin reserving extras 90 or more days in advance.
That being said, the Cabanas are not necessary at all for a shady and fun day at Castaway Cay. My family all has very light, easily burning skin, and we have not once booked a Cabana, as we prefer to save that money to use on Port Adventures at the various ports instead. You'll find plenty of beach chairs, both regular and loungers, and plenty of shade. There are umbrellas all over the beach, so grabbing a spot under one won't be a problem, especially if you head off the ship in the morning. We grab a few chairs under a couple of umbrellas to set up camp. Then, we play on the beach, relax in the shade, head to eat lunch (which also is under cover in a huge shaded area), and play at Spring-A-Leak, which is also shaded. Disney knows that families with kids want to protect their skin, as well as seek a cooler spot from the hot sun, so they've incorporated shade all over the place. I promise you, from lots of experience, you'll be able to keep out of the sun as much as you'd like, Samantha. Do be sure to wear sunscreen and stay hydrated though, as it can get very warm there.
Have fun as you continue to plan!
