I'm a DVC member but I've been hearing its cheaper to stay @ wdw or DisneyLand without using your points at certain times of the year. Does anyone know how I can look into that or where do I start looking at prices?

Thanks for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question.
The answer to your question depends on your unique situation. I would recommend that you do the following: decide on when and where, and in what type of accommodation you would like to stay. Using the points chart in the Disney Vacation Club Vacation planner, or by accessing the points charts online at the Disney Vacation Club member website
(located in the "Vacation Planning" tab as "Points Charts"), calculate the number of Vacation Points your vacation will require. If you would rather, Disney Vacation Club Member Services can do the calculation for you. In any case, for the next step, you will need to call Disney Vacation Club Member Services at 1-800-800-9800.
When you speak to a cast member at Member Services, inquire as to if there is any cash availability for the trip that you are planning, using the same dates, place, and type of accommodation that you used to calculate the total number of Vacation Points that your vacation will require. Disney Vacation Club does sometimes have cash availability for some Disney Vacation Club resorts. While cash availability is not a guarantee through Disney Vacation Club, it is worth a call. If there is no availability through Disney Vacation Club on cash, then call Disney reservations at 407-W-DISNEY (407-934-7639) to inquire as to availability and cost of your vacation.
Once you have the price in cash and number of required Vacation Points for your vacation, you can decide which is the best decision for you on this particular trip. Which option is a better choice will depend on you and your family.
I hope that these thoughts are helpful, Diane. Have a great time planning your trip, and please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
