This is going to be our families time on a cruise. We have 6 & 8 year old. I want them to experience snorkeling, so I was wondering if we have our own snorkeling gear if there is optimal snorkeling right off the beach or if we should book am excursion.

Welcome aboard, Melissa! Congratulations on your very first cruise with Disney! Once you experience all that they have to offer families, I have a feeling this won't be your last!
has a beautiful Snorkel Lagoon. Not only are there beautiful natural underwater sights to see there, but Disney has hidden some surprises out there for guests to spot! If you're hunting for Hidden Mickeys, keep your eyes open! If you bring your own snorkel gear, that is absolutely fine and will save you the small rental fee. However, all snorkelers are required to wear the life vest provided at Gils Fins and Boats or at Flippers and Floats. These two spots are where guests rent snorkeling gear if they don't have their own. The bright yellow life vests are inflatable by a tube so that you can inflate or deflate to your preference, and make all snorkelers easy to spot from the beach.
The night before you arrive at Castaway Cay, you'll receive a map of the island in your Personal Navigator. It's really easy to get to the Snorkel Lagoon, as it's on Family Beach.
Have fun and please let me know if I can answer anything else for you before you set sail, Melissa!
