We'll have our own car while at WDW. We have a breakfast reservation at Chef Mickey's (for my son's b-day) and then have the family tour at MK. Can we drive from All-Stars resort to Contemporary and park there and take the monorail to MK for the day?

I faced a similar experience a year-ago. We drove to the Contemporary for Chef Mickey's breakfast. Given the relatively limited parking at that hotel, we were allowed to park for a few hours while we ate, but had to drive back to the main parking lot and travel to Magic Kingdom from there. The good news is that you won't have to pay for parking when you return to the main lot since you are a resort guest.
Now having experienced this, I would plan next time to arrive a bit earlier and head first to the main lot, park and take the monorail to the Contemporary directly. After eating, as opposed to having to go back to the lot, I would travel (or walk) directly to the park.
