Ben I am so glad you and your family are making the long trip across the pond to Walt Disney World!
The Wild Africa Trek
is quite a unique Disney experience. Most guests ramble through the Harambe Wildlife Reserve in a safari attraction vehicle never veering off course while participants in the Wild Africa Trek walk on trails through the savanna for an up close, VIP tour. The first 60-90 minutes involve hiking along trails, wearing a harness, crossing a suspension bridge, seeing crocs and hippos, and learning about animals. The latter part of this adventure involves a safari ride across the savanna in the back of a truck and a wonderful African style lunch eaten at a veranda style hut overlooking the landscape. One of the guides serves as a photographer snapping plenty of pics of the family which are mailed to you on a CD once you arrive home. The website All Ears has a wonderful, first hand account of this experience titled a Wild Africa Three Hour Tour that you might want to read for a detailed description.
The Wild Africa Trek would be quite a different and lovely surprise for your family. My fellow WDW Moms Panelist and friend Kirsten experienced this tour with her family this summer. They enjoyed the trek so much they considered going on the adventure again only three months later. The cost for a morning tour is around two hundred dollars for an adult and about $150.00 per adult for tours starting at 11:45 or later. Currently there is no discount for DVC members.
