I am looking for some details on the Safari Grand Gathering Experience at Animal Kingdom. I cannot find any information on-line about what types of grand gatherings that are available. What characters will be there, do we have a private safari vehicle?

Our family did the Safari Grand Gathering Experience a few years ago and had a great time! I can certainly share some of the details from our trip, although things may have changed slightly, and the characters may be different. Disney does change things up from time to time, but hopefully this will give you a basic idea of what to expect.
When you arrive, you are put into groups and given a safari guide. He/she will escort you to your ride vehicle. It's the same car that's used on the Kilimanjaro Safari attraction, so your group (unless REALLY large) will most likely consist of several other guests. You'll proceed on the tour, but it is extended, and they stop occasionally allowing you time to snap pictures.
After the attraction, you'll dine family style on traditional African dishes. Don't worry, they'll also serve a couple of "kid-friendly" options for those guests with choosier palates. Again, you are seated at long tables, so you may be at a table with other groups. We had 13 in our family, so we were the only ones at our table.
There is entertainment during dinner: cast members are out on the verandah with small animals (spiders, snakes, lizards - that type of thing), there is an African band that encourages the children to join in the fun, and there are character greetings in the lobby. When we went the characters were Turk from Tarzan and Timon from Lion King.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience and a break from the hectic pace of park touring.
Hope this helps. Have a magical vacation!
