I am interested in the Disney Vacation Club. Can anyone tell me more about it, and how to get started?

Danielle, my fellow Kentuckian! Happy Derby Week!
The Disney Vacation Club is wonderful! We have never for a moment regretted our membership.
The first step, if you haven't done so already, is to explore the DVC website
and order a DVD. If you are planning a visit to Disney anytime soon then I recommend taking a tour of the facilities. This is NOT a typical timeshare! There is absolutely zero pressure to buy; the representatives are happy to show you around and explain the benefits, but they won't do a big sales pitch or hold you captive so don't be wary.
The next step is a very personal one - figuring out what you can afford, and how many points you would need for your family. How many times per year will you be visiting? What type of accommodations will you require? If you're content to stay in value resorts then DVC may not be right for you. You need to run the numbers on what makes financial sense for you. Will you be paying cash for your membership or financing?
We feel that the decision to purchase DVC is best made with equal parts head and heart. We purchased because it was something our hearts wanted, and our heads verified that it wasn't a foolish decision. If you're looking at it purely on paper, it's very hard to determine what makes it worth it', or when ownership pays for itself.
A final note is that DVC ownership does NOT tie you down. You are not forced to vacation at the same time, or even every year. Your membership will allow you to travel the world, both Disney and otherwise. What it does do is guarantee that your family will be vacationing together for years to come - and that, as they say, is priceless. :)
PS) my guide's name is Joan Lane, and she's wonderful. If you'd like to call I know she'd be helpful for you!
