What is a Guest Assistance card? My husband has chronic health conditions which make it difficult to stand in the heat for long periods of time. Is all we need a letter from his doctor stating his condition? Is the GAC good for our entire travel party?

The Guest Assistant Card (GAC) assists guests with a wide variety of special needs that may otherwise prevent them from being able to enjoy attractions.
To obtain a GAC, visit Guest Relations when you enter the 1st theme park of your visit & request one. The Cast Members (CM) will be able to tailor the GAC to help meet your husband's needs. They can date it so it will be valid during your entire visit. You will not be required to present any documentation when requesting it but you may want to bring medical documentation to at least have on hand in your room in case there are any emergencies.
The GAC will alert CMs at each attraction what type of special assistance your DH needs so that they can accommodate him to the best of their ability. The GAC will allow him & up to 5 other members of your party access to alternate queues where available. There is a section on the WDW website devoted to Guests with Disabilities

If possible, try to avoid visiting in the heat of summer. If needed, there are 1st aid stations located in each theme park. To help keep him cool, buy a Frogg Togg (available at most sporting goods stores) & keep it around his neck or head - I cut mine in 1/2 to get double the use of it. Get a misty fan - available in the parks if you don't have one. A small battery powered hand-held fan may help (bring extra batteries - they eat them like crazy). Use a visor instead of a hat (they're cooler in the heat). If the temperatures get too hot, go back to your resort to cool off & come back to the parks after dinner when it is cooler.
