We are going aboard the disney dream next week, do we need to bring beach toys for our son? Also, is the cruise casual dress code enforced for a 4yr old, I'd rather not get good clothes ruined every meal.

Congratulations on your cruise aboard the Disney Dream! There are beach toys for sale such as inflatables and sand buckets and shovels available on the ship as well as at Castaway Cay. However, you'll pay a premium. My advice is to purchase these items before you leave home -- maybe from a discount store. Then, leave them behind. You'll have more room in your luggage for new souvenirs you have purchased. There are sand toys and things to play with at Scuttle's Cove, but they are for the use of the children checked into programming there.
When dining onboard, cruise casual is simply no swimwear, shorts or tank tops in the evening at the main restaurants. Although I've never seen the "no shorts policy" enforced for a small child, I have seen the dining room staff request that a grown up change out of shorts before dinner. Plus, I've seen them ask a child to change from a swimsuit and coverup before entering the dining room. The restaurants on board are opulent, and the dress codes are there to maintain the integrity of the experience for everyone. No matter their age, I always lay out clothes for my children which meet the standards, and they've never balked at my requests. Plus, we have some fantastic family photos on Disney cruises as a result.
Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
