Going back to Disney for a few days at the end of the year. We have a 3 1/2 year old, what is better the Halloween or Disney party and what can I expect from both? When is Disney completely decorated for xmas?

Hi Elizabeth! I am not sure what the Disney party you are referring to but will assume it is the holiday one called Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party in the Magic Kingdom. The Halloween party named Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is also in the Magic Kingdom and both are great fun for the entire family.
My grandchildren enjoy the Halloween party a bit more because they love wearing their costumes and hitting the attractions that night. Stopping at the trick or treat candy stations to them is hitting the lottery at Disney because generally they are told they can't have candy every minute while on vacation. If you do decide to do Mickey's Not So Scary party then be sure you ALL find costumes and come wearing them. It will prove to be more fun I promise. The special Halloween parade that night is one of the best Disney has and my favorite part is the grave diggers and the dog. Of course the Headless Horseman is also the best way for a parade to start and he never disappoints the guests.
The Christmas party is fun as well and it is often snowing on Main Street that night. You will find cookies and hot cocoa stations around the park as well as dance parties. The Christmas parade is wonderful as well with my favorite part in this one being the marching toy soldiers.
The holiday decorations are generally up around the second week of November or when the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas party begins. At the same time you will be able to see the Osborne Spectacle of Lights in Hollywood Studios. Some of the resort decorations won't be appearing until Thanksgiving time and the great Candlelight Processional starts Thanksgiving weekend.
