Can I take my autistic 10 year old son to Disneyland?
- Asked by Gabriela from CA on 4/9/2008
Hi Gabriela -
The focus of our Panel here is Disney World in Florida, not Disneyland in California, but the answer to your question is yes, all the Disney resorts are exceptionally accommodating to special needs guests. As a start, I can point you to two resources that you help you plan a trip. They are specific to Disney World, but many of the tips you will find here can apply to any travel with an autistic child.
. Go to this website. Click on the search button (near the top right). Search on the words "autism" and "autistic." You will find several articles which discuss other family's experiences traveling with their autistic children.
2. Passporter's Open Mouse Guide to Walt Disney World
. This book is available at most larger bookstores and on amazon.com. It is the most comprehensive guide on the market for information on coping with Disney travel with special needs. There is a great list of resources in the back specific to autism.
Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any more specific questions.
